Oh Lord, Give Us Direction

God has created us all, and we have each been given a job to do,

He has given us talents, abilities, a gifting, callings that we must pursue.

We can be ambitious and have big dreams but we must be without pride;

There’s nothing wrong with aiming for the top but God must be our guide.

We don’t always wait on God because we think He’s taking too long,

But when we are in so much of a hurry we just seem to get it wrong.

We might decide to copy someone else’s gift, in the hope we’ll become a star,

But if God has not called us, that won’t get us very far.

Oh Lord, give us direction so we can be who we are meant to be,

Our destiny is in Your hands so open our eyes that we can see.

We know that the plans You have for us won’t lead us to destruction,

So forgive us for not obeying when You give us an instruction.

He is a God that knows our beginning and He knows our end,

The vast magnitude of His knowledge is hard to comprehend.

Because God created us He knows us better than we know ourselves,

He’s concerned about our destiny; He wouldn’t just leave us on the shelf.

If we make a decision by ourselves we don’t always get it right,

But when we allow God to direct us it’s always such a delight.

Don’t do or go anywhere unless His presence is with you,

Let’s make Him a part of our decision-making, He cares what we do.

Oh Lord, give us direction that we may know Your ways,

And we will follow You for the remainder of our days.

If we rely on our own understanding our lives may fall apart,

So let us trust in the Lord our God with all our heart.

If we acknowledge Him in all our ways, listen and obey,

He will shine a light on our path to direct us along the way.
